Handling of Applications for Residence for Persons with Difficulty in Returning Home
In principle, the following measures will be taken for those who are considered to have difficulty in securing return flights and returning home in their home countries due to the new coronavirus infection.
① Persons residing in Japan as “Temporary Visitor"
=> Permit extension of period of stay for "Temporary Visitor (30 days)".
② Persons who are residing in Japan with the status of residence of “Technical Intern Training” or “Designated Activities (Foreign Construction Workers or Foreign Shipbuilding Workers)” and wish to work in the same field with the same host agency as before.
=> Permit a change of status of residence to "Designated Activities (30 days/work allowed)".
③ Persons residing with other status of residence (Including those who are described in (2) above and do not wish to work).
=> Permit a change of status of residence to "Temporary Visitor (30 days)".
Handling of Applications for Certificate of Eligibility
The following measures will be taken in principle with regard to applications for certificate of eligibility from persons who are not permitted to enter Japan in connection with new coronavirus infections.
① In cases where applications for certificate of eligibility have already been submitted
=> The examination will be put on hold.
② In cases where the applicant requests a change in the start date of the activity for the submitted application.
=> Only a statement of reasons written by the host institution will be used for the examination.
③ In cases where applications for certificate of eligibility have been submitted anew due to reasons such as the period of stay has expired after leaving Japan with the re-entry permit.
=> Only an application and a statement of reasons written by the host institution will be used for the examination.
